The worst thing you can do for your self-esteem and confidence is to convince yourself that you are just fine to gain a few pounds. While a couple of extra pounds on an already healthy frame will not really make a difference, those few pounds can be the starting point for a downhill slope that you want to run away from and ruin your healthy body weight.
Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight is important for overall health and can help you prevent and control many diseases and conditions. To help you understand just why that is, take a few moments to reflect on the following reasons: it is so important to always make sure that you are getting to and staying at a healthy weight.
#1. You Will Live Longer
FACT: Excess body fat increases inflammation and cell damage, putting older overweight adults at increased risk for cognitive impairment, dementia, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis.
You already know that you have a lot to live for. However, if you allow yourself to no longer care about your healthy body weight, you find that it is going to be a lot harder to stick around for a long time.
Excess body fat increases inflammation and cell damage, putting older overweight adults at increased risk for cognitive impairment, dementia, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis. You want to be around for your friends, your family, your pets, your work, and for all the future adventures that are in store for you.
#2. You Will Be An Inspiration
TIP: Staying within a healthy weight range helps you feel good and motivates you to get out and exercise.
Do you have any young girls in your family? Whether it is your own daughter, your younger cousin, or a niece, you want to be an inspiration to her.
Even if you are in a slump and feel as though you could really care less about your own health at the moment – it is likely that you care a lot for the health of your young relative or friend. By staying a healthy weight, you will show her:

#3. You Will Feel More Attractive
This is not to say that a woman who carries a little more weight on her cannot feel or be attractive. However, many women find that their self-esteem is automatically affected in some way or another when they start packing on the pounds.
Slimming down is just as important for your emotional health as it is for your physical health. If you want to prevent that, you will want to remain a healthy weight for as long as possible. You will look better and you will feel much more comfortable in the clothes you like to wear.

Tip To Remember

FAQ About Healthy Body Weight
A new British study in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics revealed that women have unrealistic weight-loss expectations: Non-obese females said 123 pounds is their 'happy' weight, although they admitted that 132 pounds is a more realistic (and reasonable) goal weight.
A healthy weight, or normal weight, means that your Body Mass Index (MBI) falls within a weight range that is not associated with an increased risk for weight-related diseases and health issues. MBI is determined by your height and your weight.
Ideal body weight is computed in men as 50 + (0.91 × [height in centimetres − 152.4]) and in women as 45.5 + (0.91 × [height in centimetres − 152.4]). A simple alternative would be to compute ideal body weight as the weight corresponding to an ideal body mass index of 22 kg/m2.
Adult Body Mass Index (BMI):
- If your BMI is less than 18.5, it falls within the underweight range.
- If your BMI is 18.5 to < 25, it falls within the normal.
- If your BMI is 25.0 to < 30, it falls within the overweight range.
- If your BMI is 30.0 or higher, it falls within the obese range.
